Are you thirsty for iced tea? I mean really, really thirsty? Do you have about 1,000 friends who are as thirsty for iced tea as you are? If so, you have a new Guinness World Record to beat.

Yesterday, four Tulsa-area Chick-fil-A restaurants got together in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and made a nine-foot-tall cup of iced tea. It contained over 1,140 GALLONS of the brew and required a team of volunteers, 72 pounds of tealeaves, 912 gallons of water, 2,000 pounds of ice and a staggering 1,150 pounds of sugar to produce.

According to one report, the tealeaves were removed from Chick-fil-A teabags. In this rather large photo of the event, it appears that the tealeaves were bundled into one large teabag and lowered into the nine-foot-tall cup with a crane.

The press release didn't say whether or not the volunteers, Chick-fil-A employees and onlookers consumed the tea after setting the record.

After the record was set, tea by the glass or by the gallon was sold and the proceeds were going to The Little Light House, Tulsa OK

Thanks for the information, John! Good to know all that tea didn’t go to waste. :)
