Trendy Tea Cocktails

The tea industry has been excited about tea cocktails for years, but now it seems the wine industry is interested in them, too. This month's Wine Enthusiast named tea cocktails one of the big trends of summer 2010. Their article includes an intriguing list of restaurants that serve tea cocktails and a delectable description of each establishment's custom tea cocktail.

If given the choice, I'd opt for the "High Tea" cocktail at Tableau and B Bar (in the Wynn, Las Vegas) or the "Red Tea Manhattan" cocktail at Masa (in Nob Hill, San Francisco). Why? Earl Grey and jasmine green tea cocktails are fairly common compared to other types of tea cocktails. The tipples from Tableau and Masa skip the pedestrian in favor of black tea with elderflowers and red vanilla Bourbon tea. Yum!

If you'd like to try making your own tea cocktails at home or at your tea business (assuming you have a liquor license, of course!), check out these recipes for tea cocktails and tea-infused spirits (which can be used as a base for tea cocktails):

I have enjoyed several of these recipes on their own and as a base for cocktails.

I’m intrigued by the Chai-coffee recipe and just may have to try that soon.

Voyant is a lovely cream liqueur. I found that the spice added a fantastic depth to it, and it’s not quite so sweet as other things often used to spike coffee (Bailey’s, Kahlua, etc.). I hope you enjoy the combination!
