Spiced, warming masala chai is one of my favorite drinks for fall and winter. In recent years, the spices used in chai have also begun to appear in foods, such as chai-flavored chocolate truffles and ice creams, and lately I've been playing with more ways to use the flavor of chai in food recipes.
I've found that one of the easiest ways to add chai's bold, creamy flavor to cakes, cookies and other sweets is with chai-flavored icing. This easy recipe makes enough frosting to ice one-dozen cupcakes or one eight-inch, two-layer layer cake. (If you're new to frosting your own cakes, check out this guide from About.com Baking on how to frost a cake before you get started. It will save you a lot of time and effort!).
