This powdery, ochre-colored blend is seriously detoxifying. It has turmeric powder, bits of licorice root, ginger root and orange peel, lemongrass
and lemon essential oil, some of which are reputed to be naturally detoxifying, and others of which make this blend far tastier than most. It has a peppery, fiery flavor and a surprisingly sweet finish
. As a ginger lover, this is easily my favorite detox tea, and I know someone who generally hates spicy foods (including gingery or turmeric-heavy foods), but loves this balanced blend.
Heads up -- If you drink it slowly, the last few sips will be thicker and stronger, as the turmeric will begin to sink to the bottom. Also, it's usually good for two infusions.
This is one of the most widely available and most respected herbal detox blends on the market. It is available in regular EveryDay Detox and in Lemon EveryDay Detox. In my opinion, both blends taste better than you'd guess a detox
tea might taste.
According to the Traditional Medicinals website, EveryDay Detox is intended to "promote healthy liver function" using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It includes liver-friendly herbs like licorice root
, lycium fruit / goji berries
and schizandra fruit. It also uses chicory root
to "remove heat from the liver, stimulate bile secretion, and promote digestion."
While Organic Lemon EveryDay Detox is also formulated for liver protection, it is based on traditional European herbalism rather than traditional Chinese medicine. It includes burdock
, stinging nettle
, and has a bittersweet, lemony flavor.
Yogi Tea offers a range of detox teas in different flavors and with different focuses. These include a general detox tea, a skin detox tea and a berry-flavored detox tea and a peach-flavored detox tea.
Yogi DeTox is intended to counter "everyday impurities" by helping the body cleanse the liver and kidneys. Burdock and dandelion roots
(which are traditionally used for liver support) are blended with juniper berry (a traditional herb for aiding in kidney function) and an Ayurvedic blend called "trikatu
" (a mix of ginger
root, black pepper
and long pepper used to stimulate blood flow).
Berry DeTox is a more flavorful detox tea. It includes organic hibiscus
and superfruit açai berry
, as well as detoxifying herbs.
In my opinion, Yogi Tea's Peach DeTox is the best tasting tea of the Yogi detox teas line. It is made with fo-ti
(a traditional Chinese herb) and dandelion root. It also incorporates the Ayurvedic blend of "trikatu" for increased circulation.
Yogi Skin DeTox claims to help "shed impurities." Not having tried it myself, I can't vouch for that, but given that it's made with rose petals, hibiscus and green tea
, I'm guessing it at least tastes good. Burdock root, yellow dock
and red clover
are also added to boost its liver detoxification and blood cleansing capabilities.
Pukka Detox Tea is naturally caffeine free, organic and ethically sourced. It is a blend of aniseed / Chinese star anise (40 percent), fennel seed
(20 percent), cardamom seed
(15 percent), licorice root, coriander seed and celery seed. It is intended as an "everyday" detox tea, and it has well designed packaging that makes it a good option for a gifting. (Think "detox home spa gift basket.")
Art of Tea's Post-Tox is a caffeine
-free, organic, Ayurvedic blend of coriander seed, fennel seed
, milk thistle, chicory root, burdock root and dandelion root. It has a unique appearance and flavor, and is geared toward balancing the body and mind after overindulgence in alcohol or exposure to other toxins. It is one of the few loose-leaf herbal blends on this list.Full Disclosure: I have worked with The Art of Tea on a freelance basis. This has not influenced the inclusion of them in this list.
Rishi Tea's White Ginseng Detox Tea is an organic blend of schizandra berry, white ginseng (peeled Panax ginseng
), burdock root, rosehips
, peppermint, licorice root, dandelion root and raspberry. Although it has a pronounced ginseng flavor, it has a fruitier, more sweet-tart flavor than most ginseng blends. White Ginseng Detox Tea is one of the few loose-leaf teas / herbal infusions on this list.
One of the tastier detox teas in the list, Republic of Tea's Get Clean blend includes natural vanilla flavor and natural almond flavor for a more enjoyable flavor. It is intended to stimulate the liver to promote detoxification, and includes organic rooibos
, milk thistle seed
, Indian sarsaparilla root, dandelion root, chicory root
, burdock root and red clover.
You've probably seen Triple Leaf Detox Tea at your local health food store before. It's nothing fancy (think flat paper bags in a cellophane-wrapped paper box) and it certainly does not
taste good, but it is a long-used and fairly respected brand amongst the health food community. It uses Chinese herbs that were traditionally used to "support the healthy function of the liver, kidneys, lungs and blood, to cleanse the body of toxins and to promote clear, healthy skin and healthy natural energy."
Cleanse & Detox Herbal Tea from Gaia Herbs is made with detoxifying burdock, artichoke
and rooibos, as well as flavorful lemon and peppermint essential oils. It is geared toward liver detoxification and support. Each teabag is sealed in a foil pouch (which preserves flavor and maintains efficacy over longer periods of time) and is sealed without the use of staples or glue.
This "everyday" detox tea from Celestial Seasonings is a blend of roasted barley
, licorice, roasted chicory, dandelion root, sarsaparilla root, red clover and natural flavors (including vanilla). It was created to promote healthy liver function and boost immunity, and is intended to be consumed in the morning.
