Nelson's Gold Iced Tea Recipe

Silver Tips Tea serves Nelson's Gold Iced Tea in their tearoom in upstate New York. It is a summery blend of fresh strawberries and lemon with a black tea blend called Nelson's Gold.

This iced tea recipe can easily be adapted into an alcoholic iced tea recipe.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 3 hours

Total Time: 3 hours, 20 minutes

Yield: About 10 servings

Ingredients:

  • 12 heaping teaspoons of Nelson's Gold, divided
  • 12 cups water, divided
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • Sugar, to taste.
  • 1/2 thinly sliced lemon
  • (Optional) 4 oz. vodka

Preparation:

  1. Using half the tealeaves and water, steep six cups of Nelson's Gold in boiling water for 4 minutes using an infuser basket. After 4 minutes, remove infuser basket with leaves.
  2. Cool the tea.
  3. Pour the tea into ice cube trays and freeze.
  4. Make 6 more cups of Nelson's Gold as per instructions above.
  5. Puree fresh strawberries and add to the tea. Stir well.
  6. Strain through a fine mesh strainer.
  7. Add the pure vanilla extract and add sugar to taste.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator until cold (several hours).
  9. To serve, put frozen Nelson's Gold ice cubes, Nelson's Gold iced tea and thinly sliced lemon in a large pitcher.
  10. (Optional) For a tea cocktail, add 4 oz. vodka to the pitcher.
