Carpe Diem's Quince and Cranberry kombuchas are great, but their Classic Kombucha is a must-try blend.

Marko Goodwin
The classic variety of Carpe Diem Kombucha is a sparkling beverage made with fermented herbal teas and acerola berry juice. (Over)abundant health claims aside, this drink is all about the flavor. In fact, I'd hazard to say it's the best-tasting kombucha on the market.

Appearance

Ignore the Greco-Roman imagery and Zen association on the bottle. The good stuff is inside. Pour the pale, pink-peach brew (watching for spillage from fizz) and savor this drink's flavor.

Aroma & Flavor

The aroma of Carpe Diem's Classic Kombucha lies somewhere between that of unflavored kombucha and Kombucha Wonder Drink Cherry Cassis. The acerola provides a sweet, tart, cherry-like scent that goes well with the natural tartness of the kombucha.

Its flavor is smooth, more sweet than tart, and spiked with a light cinnamon-spice note. It tastes a bit like a light, well-made sparkling sangria. The added flavor is mild and the overall flavor is sophisticated and refreshing.

Classic kombucha's mellow, sweet aftertaste is accented with hints of hibiscus and cinnamon.

Overall Opinion

I highly recommend this kombucha. Even if you think you don't like kombucha, give this one a try. It has a nuanced flavor that is sweet without being overly sweet, and its refreshing flavor makes it an ideal summertime sipper. Also, it is pasteurized, which means that (unlike many raw kombuchas) it has a negligible alcohol content.
