Coffee Liquor Recipe

Serve it plain on the rocks, sweeten with simple syrup or dress it up with an agave-cinnamon rim (as pictured).

You can make your own coffee liquor (akin to unsweetened Kahlua) at home. Add sweetener, cream, cinnamon or other ingredients as desired, use it as an ingredient in more complex coffee cocktails, or simply sip it on the rocks.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour

Total Time: 1 hour, 5 minutes

Yield: Four to eight servings


  • 1/3 cup lightly crushed coffee beans (lightly crush in coffee grinder or with a mortar and pestle)
  • 1 cup vodka


  1. Stir the coffee beans into the vodka.
  2. Let sit in a covered glass container for one hour and then strain the coffee with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
  3. Add simple syrup or rim the glass with agave and cinnamon if desired.
  4. Serve on the rocks.
