Any eggnog fan will tell you that nothing compares to a great homemade eggnog. However, if you're short on the time and/or cooking skills needed to whip up even easy eggnog recipes, then a store-bought eggnog like Horizon Organic Low Fat Eggnog may be a better choice for you.
Nutritional Value
One of the main benefits of Horizon Organic Low Fat Eggnog is that it's healthier than most store-bought or homemade eggnog. One-half cup of Horizon Organic Low Fat Eggnog contains:
- 3 grams total fat
- 2 grams saturated fat
- 140 calories
- 22 grams sugar
- 5 grams protein
Flavor
Like most pre-made eggnogs, this is a very sweet eggnog. It's not as spiced as I usually drink my eggnog, but you can always add a dash or nutmeg or cinnamon if you want more spice.
Texture
The texture of Horizon Organic Low Fat Eggnog is creamier than you might expect. Despite the fact that it is low fat, it includes egg yolks, cream and milk, as well as guar gum and carrageenan (which give it more body).
Overall Rating
Horizon Organic Low Fat Eggnog may not be as good as homemade eggnog, but for the price and time involved, it's surprisingly good. I give it 4 stars.
