An image of Kombucha Wonder Drink's three new flavors.

Juniper berry, spearmint and lemon myrtle give this kombucha blend an incredibly unique flavor profile.

Kombucha Wonder Drink offers a range of kombucha-based blends. Their unusual and herbaceous Juniper Berry, Spearmint & Lemon Myrtle blend will appeal to more adventurous sippers.

Packaging & Ingredients

Although the overall package design for this herbaceous kombucha is well executed, the baby blue was, perhaps, not the best choice. Blue has been shown to be unappealing to consumers when it comes to consumables and this is no exception. Fortunately, the chardonnay-like color and low-sediment clarity of the kombucha is emphasized enough to distract the eye from the blue logo.

Within the bottle, there's a blend of pasteurized* kombucha, green tea, cane sugar and an infusion of juniper berries, spearmint and lemon myrtle. This flavor balance reflects a trend in kombucha that was likely launched by High Country Kombucha. GT's line of Synergy Kombucha is taking a similar turn with some of their new flavors, which include flavors like elderberry-lavender and bilberry, honeysuckle and red clover.

Each of the two seven-ounce servings contains 10 grams of sugar. The cap can be resealed so the second serving can be consumed later.

* Pasteurization nearly eliminates chances of contamination and lowers/stabilizes the alcohol content. In my experience, the pasteurization and/or blending also reduces the mind/body effects of kombucha.

Aroma, Flavor & Aftertaste

A complexly herbaceous aroma carries abundant scents of lemon (from the lemon myrtle and the tanginess of kombucha) and mint.

A bold, sweet spearmint flavor is backed with sweet-tart lemon myrtle, sour kombucha and a hint of gin-like juniper berry.

The aftertaste is sweet and minty, with less of a kombucha vinegar note than you might expect.

Overall Opinion

This unusual flavor is great as a break from the everyday, but it's definitely not an "everyday drinker" kind of beverage. I recommend it to:
  • Fans of High Country's herbaceous kombucha flavors and GT's Botanic line of kombuchas
  • Those who are concerned about the alcohol level of unpasteurized kombucha
  • Mint tea/tisane lovers
  • Gin drinkers
